Just a short blog post today but here are some bible verses on how God can use a broken vessel and make a broken person whole.
Jeremiah 17:14, "God, pick up the pieces. Put me back together again. You are my praise!"
Psalm 34:18, "The LORD [is] nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit."
The Lord heals the hurting as these verse describe and saveth those of a 'contrite' spirit which means as merriam webster says, "feeling or showing sorrow and remorse for a sin or shortcoming." Contrite means to be sorrowful and repentant of our past faults, to turn from our past sin and turn towards a loving God willing to cleanse us of all wrongdoing and heal our hurting heart. The bible also says in Romans 3:23, "for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;" We are not the only person who has done wrong nor are we alone in this world to suffer hurt and shame for what we have done because there is a God who loves us. As many preachers would say, "I was lost but now am found. I was broken but now I'm healed. I was lost, BUT GOD intervened and saved me."
So do not be discouraged God is here waiting for your call.
Update:
My most recent thoughts on “Broken Pieces” came when I was reflecting back on this post. As I skimmed down this brief article, thinking I had written and had intended for an uplifting purpose. I recognized the common thinking to being “broken.” I never dove into the word and prayer about this extremely important subject. So here is written a more thoughtful and researched, after-thoughts on “Broken pieces.”
Skimming down the short article of minimal research, arriving at the short definition of contrite I came to a halt. Contrite, a word I attribute to a deep emotion, had completely changed for me. Repentant, in short, could summarize the word contrite. Knowing that you are wrong and there was right you did not put use in your life in the place if that wrong decision you had once faced. I would like to not emphasize what you may already know to be true in your own life. I simply want to amplify the reason God has us repent and recognize our brokenness in the first place. Our brokenness often times leads to repentance. Probably because we are broken we recognize the feeling Jesus gets when He hurts for our attention and not necessarily our submission but obedience to what plans He has for us because He wants the best for us. He wants the best for us so the plan He has, guaranteed, has to be the greatest. Anyway! Moving onto my thoughts of the actual article!
When I brought up the verse in Roman’s 3:23, where it says all have fallen short of the glory of God, I forgot not everyone thinks of this verse the way I perceive it to be. So here’s my way of thinking of this verse.
You can stop yourself up for “not being good enough for Jesus,” as some see it. The verse states a fact. Nobody is glorified like Jesus because He is God and God alone. There is nobody like Him. No one can come to His level of holiness.
That is why He KNEW He was the one to create a sacrifice for our sins. God gave you an opportunity! And opportunity surpass your short comings and combat the enemies hold on you life with depression, anxiety, sickness and much more with the saving grace and healing of your soul first and foremost.
Jesus encourages us in the gospel to attain a perseverance to overcome the darkness of this world and strive after perfection, while knowing that we fall short. The amazing purpose God has for our lives shows up where we have come to a halt. When we cannot go farther on our own He accompanies is. God has made His strength be known in the weakness of His people time and time again. In our weakness His strength is shown. 2 Corinthians 12:9 KJV says, “And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
It isn’t about the infirmity. It’s about the assurance we have in Christ overall that gives us the faith and belief to be healed from the infirmity. If we thought of sin more as a “sickness” that needs to be healed more than a wrong that we did that we see as almost inevitable in the future. We might have more of an upper hand spirituallay. It isn’t that you are bad because you sin. It is that sin inevitably leads to death and we all know that isn’t good! Please don’t misunderstand. Death spiritually is what I am talking about as a whole. Sin has such a negative effect on life.
You know when you have lied? There was that horrible feeling you probably felt after? The feeling is that of a crushing, oppressive spirit which pushes us down and further away from God. It twists and turns your emotions from feeling liberty to feel good about yourself. When you decide to tell the truth and ask forgiveness from having lied you feeling release from that pressure. Repentance will free you from this oppression!
Oh dear reader, you have experienced so much of this feeling throughout life. So many grievous emotions have vexed your soul. I am here today to tell you there is a way out! There is a way to overcome! As 1 Corinthians 10:13 proclaims, “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”
When you live in a lie and don’t allow forgiveness to take place you begin to live in condemnation. Comdemnation will steal your joy. There is a way out! A way to escape the so called “inevitable sin,” that has perplexed you and held you captive for so long.
God is “waiting for your call,” as I expressed at the end of the article, “Broken Pieces.” I hope you see repentance in a different light! Let me know what you think!
