Idolators/Idolatry

Exodus 20:3-6, "You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself carved images or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve for I the Lord God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers of the children to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments."

Psalm 1:6, "The Lord watches over the righteous, the way of the wicked leads to ruin."

Building on the principles of the bible will help each and every one of us withstand the struggles and stresses life throws at us and what the devil tries to overwhelm us with. That is why it is so important to not have idols because having idols would make us an idolator who lets a person, place, or thing be worshipped above Jesus in our life and separates us from God. Sin is the separation from us and holiness which makes it possible for us to commune with God. Idolatry is a sin for this very reason.

Colossians 3:5, "Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry."Basically covetous, meaning, you want something so bad that you envy and it distracts you from living the way God would have desired. There is an emptiness that needs to be filled in each of us and it should overflow with the love of God because nothing else can satisfy us as Jesus can, but at times we think we need pretty things and we get envious and covet after what our neighbor has instead of focusing on Jesus.

Last but not least;

Jonah 2:8, "Those who pay regard to vain idols forsake their hope of steadfast love." This is what I was just saying. We get distracted by gods and pretty things and idols that we think can fulfill our desires but at the end of the day, we are left underwhelmed and unsatisfied with who we are because we didn't pray our way to where we want to be and where we should be. These can be one and the same if we just pray through it which can be a sacrifice. Although it may be a sacrifice at times, prayer becomes a lifestyle and Jesus can get us through anything. So just remember that nothing can fulfill your heart's desire like Jesus can. The idols can't hear or speak or answer your prayers. So what makes you think they can save you from your hopeless, depressing nights alone. God can reach us in the lonely times, in the good times, and the bad times, in the up times and the downtimes. I may be at a low but I still have Jesus. Thank you for reading.
